Can anybody please offer me a site that shows the specs of the processor.Like the cache, fpu, and the difference between the hardware of itanium and amd...?

263445 2004-08-20 00:02:00 You'll be strugling to find specs on sledgehammer as it was mearly the code name for the core used in the Opteron. Try doing a google search for Opteron you'll have more luck.

You do realise that Opteron is a CPU designed for use in servers or high level workstations?

263446 2004-08-20 00:14:00 I didn't know that.I was so struggling. So they changed the name to opteron when it was released? Is this what you are trying to say>? yingxuan (3330)
263447 2004-08-20 00:36:00 No its always been called opteron, but during the life of a particular CPU it has different cores. Theres cores are given codenames to make its easy to differenciate between them. For example the P4 has had Willemette, Northwood and Prescott. The AthlonXP had Thunderbird, Palmino, Throughbred and Barton.

Before AMD released the name of its new server CPU it was refered to by its codename e.g sledgehammer the desktop version was refered to as clawhammer. When AMD officially released Opteron they also announced its name.

The desktop equivilants of the Opteron are the Athlon64 and AthlonFX.

263448 2004-08-20 01:20:00 Pete, is there any truth to the rumour that the code name for Itanium was in fact tItanic and that the name of the E E was actually Extremely Expensive? of course this was all before the marketing boys got involved :p

Cheers Murray ;P

263450 2004-08-20 01:57:00 I heard that the EE stood for Emergency Edition, Intel saw the benchmarks of the P4 vs the AthlonFX and shat themselves. :P

Now now we cant let this turn into a flame or we'll make Bruce even madder.
