263372 2004-08-19 15:29:00 Is it worth getting a old hard drive for "win386.swp" file, with the idea to may be speed up the windows operating system.

Just how much would it speed it up?

Is it worth the money?

Is the idea worth thinking about?

Sorry for the late posting, I get my best idea's early in the morning, it like a bad dream.

263373 2004-08-19 22:21:00 provided you have a resonable amount of ram then it would proberly run SLOWER.
ideally you want the swap file on the fastest drive not some old slow one and if you do put it on its own hardrive then its best to have the harddrive on its own IDE channel.

263374 2004-08-20 02:17:00 Hi,
It would probably speed up the defragmentation process while slowing down the normal operations. "Old drive" is usually short for "small, slow drive", if the swap file gets a lot of use due to meagre RAM, that is not so good. If you really hate to defrag the drive, it could well be an advantage to your everyday operations. Nothing is ever carved in stone with windows apparently, so your mileage may vary. If you have the drive, why not just try it and see?
