263584 2004-08-20 14:06:00 Hi
I have just posted about a driver problem with my scanner, which was resolved. I got a driver off a website, I am not sure wether it is the official one, but Windows likes it. Anyway, when I lifted the lid of the scanner, it detected that and asked me what programme I would like to use, I chose ‘Ulead Photo Express 3.0 SE’. I tried to start the scan, but I got this error message
'Error in getting the TWAIN data source, cheek if the device is properly connected to your computer, or reselect you device from the Select Data source drop down list.'
The Scanner is connected properly and there are no other devices to select from, the drop down menu.
I am running Win98SE and it is a Mustek 1200 UB
Thanks
Mike

263585 2004-08-20 21:30:00 I would say its the wrong driver for the scanner. Thats what that error means. Did you mean 1200 USB scanner? If so, go here to get the offical drivers.

www.mustek.com.tw

And download the bottom file 95/98 Twain driver. Download and install. You may have to reboot.

With scanning you usually open the graphics program first, then go to file/import/twain/select source. After you've installed the driver for the scanner. It's better to use the driver that came with the scanner (it usually comes on CD with the scanner). Or to download from the official site of the maker of the scanner.

263586 2004-08-20 21:36:00 Hi Mike,

I might not be much help, had the same problem with my HP scanner when i put it on a new comp running XP. It sounds like the driver you have downloaded is still not compatible.

You could try reinstalling the same (new) driver as sometimes it works 2nd time around.

also I guess you've checked out the Mustek site for updated drivers?

I'm not sure if 98SE is the same as XP, but sometimes it works scanning using the the windows scanning software when it wont using the scanner direct.

Hope this helps
Joe

263587 2004-08-21 03:47:00 Yeah, I have tried downloading the Drivers from the website, I guess I forgot to add that, and I got another one from another site. Tribomb (5547)
263588 2004-08-21 03:59:00 I tried to get the Drives off the official website, but I couldnt, So i got them off a drivers website. I have tryed reinstalling it, didnt work. Tribomb (5547)
263589 2004-08-21 04:38:00 And what happened when u tried to get it off the Mustek site? An error?

Its better if u get them off the Mustek site. They'll work.

263590 2004-08-21 05:07:00 I finally got them from an officail site, Here, www.mustek.de but it still isnt working, one of the two files has an unreconised thing at the end (eg, .EXE) and I have no Idea what to open it with. Tribomb (5547)
263591 2004-08-21 05:11:00 An .exe file does not "open with" anything, its a self executing file.

Open Windows Explorer and double click it. Its a program.

263592 2004-08-21 05:18:00 oh yes I know, But the end '.whatever' for the second file has nothing assigned to open it. I was unsing .EXE as an example because I dont know the name of the three to four letter code after the file name. Tribomb (5547)
263593 2004-08-21 05:25:00 Why go to a german site? What is the exact model of your scanner? Is it a bearpaw 1200 or bearpaw 1200 plus or what? Spacemannz (808)
