264362 2004-08-22 22:51:00 I have aquired Alien vs Predator )about 2hrs long) as an AVI file, however when playing it in Windows Media Player, wmp thinks it is a song, and tries to play it at 48kbps (thinks it's 15hrs long) and of course just plays silence.

I also have reason to beleive it is DivX encoded, but I have DivX 5.2 and the DivX player can't play it (correct size, time and quality but no sound or video).

What can I do? It was a 535MB download.

264363 2004-08-22 22:58:00 What version of Windows are you using?? I think XP SP2 had probs with DIVX 5.2 I think it was... Try updating DIVX. Spacemannz (808)

264366 2004-08-22 23:19:00 Gspot is a little program.

It might be an idea to grab k-lite mega-codec pack,it comes with gspot and all the codecs a person could ever need, although it pays to err on the side of caution and only install the minimal/required codecs.

I would imagine your file is incoded in Xvid.

264367 2004-08-22 23:24:00 Yes, it was DivX, I had the right codecs, but it was a dud. It was a 535MB file, but there were 517MB of 'junk' at the end of it. george12 (7)
264368 2004-08-22 23:30:00 Swish.

264369 2004-08-22 23:33:00 for those you can't search...gspot home (www.headbands.com) :-)

i don't recommend codec packs. its very hard to find one that hasn't got dodgy filters/codecs in them. simply install the ones you need.
