264091 2004-08-22 02:00:00 Hello I am using PartitionMagic pro 7 and have my Harddrive set out as follows:

Disk---------Partition-----------Type
1------------C:-------------------NTFS
1------------*:-------------------Extended
1-------------*:------------------LinuxEx2
1------------*:SWAPSPACE2--LinuxSwap
1------------*:-------------------LinuxEx2

I have a half complete gentoo install on the linux partitions but want to gid rid of it completey and just have the single NTFS Drive and all my space back!

In partition magic if i try to delete any of these partitions or format them to fat or something I get error messages such as file system not supported. Is there any way i can completely get rid of them? Without touching my C: drive as id rather not have to backup and start again!

Thanks :)

264092 2004-08-22 02:50:00 Therre have been troubles with MS's FDISK no being able to remove non-DOS partitions, but I believe those times are over. ;-)

If you have Windows XP, use its Disk Management to remove the Linux partitions. If you have W98 on, FDISK should do it. You need to remove the logical partitions (the ext2 and linux-swap ones) first then the Extended one (which is the space in which the logical ones live).

Making it back into a single NTFS space is up to you. PM might do it --- I've never used it. ;-) The Xp utility might do it --- I've never used that. :D

264093 2004-08-22 02:59:00 Copy & Paste from ver 7 specs.

Convert Between File Systems -
conversions include FAT to FAT32 and NTFS, FAT32 to FAT, NTFS to FAT and FAT32, primary to logical and vice versa, FAT32 to NTFS under Windows 2000 Professional.

Although ver 7 has: "Support for FAT, FAT32, Linux ext 2, Linux SWAP, NTFS, and HPFS" Unfortunately that does not appear to include conversions to/from the non DOS/Windows formats. As far as I can tell neither does ver 8 which is surprising but I could be wrong on that.

Do you have a linux live CD you can boot to and use QTparted? or use good old fdisk.

As always back data up before messing with your partitions.

264094 2004-08-22 11:41:00 a small util called delpart.exe will remove these and ntfs, fat partitions easily, just find it on the internet then create a dos bootdisk copy the util over to the bootdisk, restart the pc with the bootdisk in the drive and type delpart at the dos prompt. Delpart is also very easy to use! Lee76 (6051)
