264658 2004-09-10 08:28:00 Have a look at Ascent there a very good online shop . Up until recently I brought solely from them, i only stopped shoping there as i befriended my local techie and now get better prices locally . I have never had any problems with parts supplied and are alway deleivered promptly . They have a lil online pc builder thingy, that with a lil help for us should make choosing a new PC easy .

What sort of shape are your current mouse, keyboard and screen in? If you can use them for your next PC then you can save some cash . For around the $1000 - $1300 mark you should be able to easily build a machine capable of the Sim2 .

I've never been to dunedin and have never heard anything good or bad about the retailers down there . My advice would be to get a machine assembled by an online retailers such as Styles or Ascent . Both are very reputable, perhap approach them by email . Tell them your just after the system and not the mouce etc and that you would like your new PC to be capable of playing the Sims2 . Our very own metla is a retailer perhaps he could help you out?

264659 2004-09-10 09:24:00 Sorry Megan, I had the feeling that I had left something out, but it was late and my mind had quit for the night. The processor is a Pentium 4 and runs at 2.4 Ghz. You should have re-read the correspondence above. It has a Windows XP OEM CD as well as 8 other CDs of software, drivers etc. If there is anything else that you would like to know just ask. You forgot to use the spell checker Bruce. :D
I will reiterate, just so that it is clear to everyone, my Warehouse Dell 4600i came with a Windows XP CD, as well as recovery software on a protected and hidden partition. Vince

My Warehouse Dell Came with 2 free drive bays, 2 free ram slots, (I added 2 256MB memory cards) and one expansion slot on the Mother Board.

I think the analogy with cars might work better with McLaren F1 v Volkswagon beetle. Everyone will acknowledge that the McLaren is the superior car but nobody would drive it to work. ;)

You would Bruce if you had read my posts earlier in this thread . The Warehouse Dell 4600i has a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 graphics card . It also has a Sound Blaster sound card .

I'm not sure if it has an AGP slot, but does have an AGP controller . I haven't slept in about 30 hours and I don't feel like trying to find out right now .

It does have 1 free expansion slot . Vince

Yes Vince, this has already been pointed out to me (see above somewhere). Apologies for my poor thread comprehension :8}

264664 2004-09-10 12:15:00 Hi Vince
What sort of games or graphic applications do you run on your Dell? How have you found the performance? Was the performance drastically improved when you added the extra RAM? How many RAM slots has it got?
Thank you for all the help.

264665 2004-09-10 12:20:00 I wouldnt drive a McLaren F1 car anywhere, you would almost get there, then the engine would explode, I admit on it's last outing it did finish the race, somewhere near the front to....... Rob99 (151)
264666 2004-09-10 12:22:00 hell, I would love to drive a maclaren to work, at least the resulting fiery crash would cause huge exposure and ensure a well attended funeral. metla (154)
