264597 2004-08-24 02:38:00 You could probally have found out by now by walking in and ripping open the boxes to see what is inside. If someone comes over and says "what are you doing" you can ignore them as they are obviously an idiot, but if they say "Hey, stop that" or "can I help you" you could ask to see the disc's included with the package. Getting the facts can be a pain eh. I bought the $1399 Dimension 4600, I don't know about the cheaper one. The XP OS disk is the full version, I think. At any rate it is not a "recovery" disk. I just had a look at the disks contents with explorer, it contains the original MS setup.exe. and a lot more. Vince

264599 2004-08-24 05:31:00 I have just been to the Warehouse, Barrington, Christchurch. They have a new shipment of Dell Dimension 4600s at $1299 Vince Vince (406)
264600 2004-08-24 11:19:00 Hi all. Finally got an email from Dell - my original email had not been replied because the link on the website to that person did not work there anymore! And this is a multinational IT company?
Anyway they confirmed they do supply recovery disks for desktops & notebooks. Hope this helps others as well.

264603 2004-09-09 15:02:00 ..thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.
This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socio-economic unfairness.

I have a friend with a Dell, unfortunately, he enjoyed his computer intitiation, and wanted to upgrade - oh darn ! In spite of my comments before he bought it, I suspect he blames me for not forcibly preventing him buying the thing.

264604 2004-09-09 17:06:00 Hi Megan.
I can think of no reason to find fault with my Dell 4600i. It has better specs than the same model on there website and is hundreds of $ cheaper! I have been using my Dell since April and the only problems I have had are the same that any Windows computer has.

Here ar some Specs. DVD rom/CD RW. Maxtor 80 Gig hard drive, 32MB recovery software on a separate partition. I was surprised to find that the warehouse computer has sound and video cards rather than just chipsets on the motherboard. NVIDEA GeForce FX 5200 video and Creative Live Series (WDM) sound. The speakers sound good and the monitor is 17 inches. There 2 free drive bays for new DVD writer etc. and 2 or 3 un-used expansion slots. The Modem is faster than the one in my old computer (a PIII 450) even though they are both 56K. There is no Floppy drive, but who needs one these days? 256 MB of ram is on the low side but enough.
The only additional expense is a printer. I got a perfectly good Epson for $117. There is all the software you 'need'. The main suite is MicroSoft Works. Hope this is of help. Vince

An opinion formed in ignorance no doubt. ;) Vince
