1369131 2014-03-02 23:48:00 Computer unable to connect to the internet

~ tried with another pci network card no change
~ scanned & removed malware & trojans ~ no change
~ Windows XP Home
~ Avast Free Anti Virus
~ turned off Windows Firewall ~ no change
~ there are no packets being sent or received
~ cmd prompt: ipconfig generates the words: Windows IP Configuration, but nothing else no IP address..
~ DSL router is working ~ other computers connecting successfully through it.

any thoughts as to why & what to do would be greatly appreciated.

1369132 2014-03-03 00:34:00 Whats the router make and model? Please don't tell me it's one of the Thomson / Technicolor ones Xtra gives away. This is a semi-known issue that they just stop handing out IP addresses, and it's a stupid bug and it's frustrating as hell :D Chilling_Silence (9)

1369137 2014-03-03 01:30:00 Try uninstalling Avast, it looks like it has same sort of firewall/filtering in it, theres a possibility Avast is screwing with the settings.

One way to tell, Boot the Computer from a Linux live CD, they usually will pick up most Ethernet ports, if it working on a Live CD then its software related.
