2014-02-27 10:36:00 | I have 2 Vista laptops from 2 different clients that recently changed ISP to Telecom. They have changed to the new Telecom wireless modem and both will only connect with limited connection as the connection is set to public so no internet. I cannot change to home or work. I have tried many things but nothing has fixed it. On one (havent tested other yet) the Ethernet connection is shown as unidentified but at least has internet access. I have brought one back to my office and connected to my wifi no problem, asked to select public/home/work and connected as it should. So I now think the issue is the new modems. Anyone had similar issues and a fix? My next step is to change modems back to test.

2014-02-27 19:28:00 | Had a similar problem with a Vista laptop this week, they'd installed a new router. Was working fine for their iPhone and Macbook, but not Vista. Worked on ethernet. Discovered they had set the IP address/DNS manually for the wifi adapter, and it was a slightly different range to the new modem (old was 192.168.1.x, new was 192.168.2.x) Set it to auto and problem solved. | Renegade (16270) | |

I have tried lots of things - to many to type here but the basic ones are disable TCP/IPv6, firewall, AV. Run route delete 0.0.0.0 etc. I thought someone had ticked the option to treat all future networks as Public but as it gave me that option on my wifi that is not the case. |

2014-02-28 20:14:00 | It might be that Windows 7 not being able to see a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol )server on the LAN, and therefore it doesn't know what kind of network it is and defaults to the Public network. I would suggest you do check the IP address of all the systems whether you get an 169.254.x.x. if you get the IP address then it indicates that the PC could not obtain an actual IP address from your router. This will cause your network to be 'Unidentified' and default to 'Public network'. answers.microsoft.com

2014-03-01 03:43:00 | As already posted I have set as a static IP and via DHCP so not that issue. have also read that page before and nothing helped. Will be onsite Monday so will see a new modem or even connecting to the hotspot on my phone works.
