| 1368819 | 2014-02-26 06:03:00 | I have a DrayTek V120 which was in pass-through mode to the TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND (running Gargoyle). Vodafone have upgraded me to VDSL and given me a Huawei HG659, which is in the garage because I couldn't get a Cat6 cable to my upstairs study. Therefore, I am using TP-LINK and D-LINK powerline boxes plus wifi. I need to extend the wireless signal and thought I could use the 1043ND as an access point. DHCP is disabled. Attached is my attempt to get it working. Wifi apps see the new SSID but devices e.g. tablet will not connect. I can continue to try or simply get a new powerline box. Could someone review my settings. The HG659 is 192.168.1.1 I wont be using Gargoyle as the SSID. The HG659 and the WR1043ND will be on different channels (probably with the same SSID). Encryption will be set to WPA2-PSK PS. I know a little, but not enough to know how to do this. |

If possible, you should avoid repeaters as they effectively operate at half their potential throughput (due to having to receive packets then re-transmit them). | wuppo (41) | ||

Is that a recommendation to go with powerline? Personally, Powerline is easier, just a bit more expensive, but if the results are 'better' then so be it. |

Would using the powerline adapters to go from your VDSL modem to the TP-Link work? That way you could position the TP-Link centrally in the house, they would still do the pass-through properly, (If you bought a new modem) and you wouldn't have to fluff around with range extending that way. (Which is patchy at the best of times.) |

Not to mention, WiFi is half-duplex, so you're cutting down on the max speed between the repeater and the main gateway, coz it's got to re-transmit everything it receives... Do the right thing, use a cable :D |
