1368764 2014-02-25 22:25:00 Hi There,

I have a Compaq c700 laptop which recently started having display issues, the issue is the LCD screen does not display anything when the laptop is turned on; this is including the bios startup screen, however sometime you can see a slight shadow of the desktop icons after the startup . The only solution that I came across is to turn it on and off a number of times before the screen starts working again . I have rebuilt the laptop to its factory settings using the recovery process, which has not resolved the issue . The laptop is running windows vista .

I have plugged the laptop to an external monitor using VGA cable which also had the same issue of nothing being displayed on the external monitor .

Any assistance would be much appreciated

Cheers,

Louis

1368766 2014-02-25 22:45:00 For the external Display, did you press the key combo to switch to it ? Normally the FN + F key, not to sure which F Key but it will have a picture of a monitor on it usually.

Failing that it could be one of several things, either a faulty board, or just for the LCD Display, could be the cable that goes from the board to the LCD Panel, the inverter, or the LCD panel its self.

Sounds like a backlight\inverter problem. Try shining a bright torch etc on the screen: Do you see the image?

1368768 2014-03-04 04:53:00 what sort of update are you referring to? Louis (15620)
1368769 2014-03-04 04:55:00 I did not use any of the function keys when connecting the external display, however after having a few goes of turning it ON and Off the external display did eventually work. Louis (15620)
1368770 2014-03-04 04:57:00 I did shine a light on the screen in which I was not able to see anything. Louis (15620)

You WILL need to send it off for repairs .
This is a hardware fault that you almost certainly wont be able to fix yourself .
Expect it to cost $200 - $300 ish .

I would advise against trying any sort of update or Win reload on a laptop with this sort of issue .
