1368382 2014-02-22 00:46:00 Hey,

Recently I completed a boot time scan through Avast and their was allot of viruses removed.
I think possibly removing them has caused damage through the process.
currently when I start my laptop it comes up with a blue screen with options to command prompt or back date the pc.
Back dating isn't working, usually the screen goes black. I'm wondering if there's possibly some commands I could input to boot it back to the desktop? I've tried most to my knowledge. But I don't want to resort to complete re installation of Windows as there's allot of stuff stored. Please help,

thanks.

1368383 2014-02-22 00:57:00 Does the bluescreen have an option to boot into windows?? Will it boot into safe mode? On that blue screen does it have a disable automatic after restart option?? If it does select it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1368384 2014-02-22 01:44:00 It does have the option to boot into windows but the screen goes black when I try. Pretty much the only last resort for me right now is command prompt Demendra (17232)
1368385 2014-02-22 01:47:00 Type in rstrui.exe. This is system restore see if it works Speedy Gonzales (78)
1368386 2014-02-22 02:55:00 Thanks for your assistance, I managed to have the restore option process without back screen, It's been loading for hours. Might just leave it and see what comes up. Demendra (17232)
1368387 2014-02-22 21:57:00 If it does restore it to a usable condition, you may find it has restored your virii too.
Copy off your stuff to other drives or media, and use the restore partition(different from System Restore) this time (your manual will tell you how to access this, often F8 or F11 while rebooting or similar) to repair, or reinstall (recommended, this will remove everything, including your malware).

1368388 2014-02-23 03:20:00 Hey,

I restored the system back to a date before a ran my boot time scan but It's still booting into the blue screen with the same options. It gives me the option to run windows 8 but the screen goes black, I have command prompt handy if you have any commands you can fling my way, But I'm finding it just wants to boot into this blue screen that doesn't want to help me what ever option I choose.

1368389 2014-02-23 03:55:00 Try this type Bcdedit /set {bootmgr} displaybootmenu yes

Then restart. Hold F8 down while you restart , wait for the menu to come up (if it does) select safe mode. See if that works. See if safe mode / networking works

1368391 2014-02-23 05:24:00 Sorry I didn't mean to repeat the same thing, speedy I didn't quite catch? I did that Bcdedit command but after that there was a long list of things that I couldn't even command towards? Demendra (17232)
