1350492 2013-08-03 00:01:00 Further to this thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz), will I be able to use the TV as a monitor for my old Win XP box? And if so, what cabling, sockets on each etc will I need?

I won't know exactly what inputs are on the TV until I unpack it next week. And I can't recall what's on my XP box apart from the 4 USB 2.0 ports, and won't know either until I've moved house next week.

1350493 2013-08-03 00:18:00 VGA is likely to be the least common denominator so use that :) pcuser42 (130)
1350494 2013-08-03 03:02:00 Yeah VGA is on most. Alternatively HDMI :) Coz the TV will definitely have HDMI... So worst-case scenario you jump on TradeMe and find a cheap ass graphics card that'll do HDMI if your current one can't. Chilling_Silence (9)

1350496 2013-08-03 10:12:00 It has VGA and HDMI on the TV, as I said on the other thread though bang it through a stereo amp and decent speakers gary67 (56)

1350499 2013-08-03 16:38:00 The reason I asked was because my sister uses a w/s tv that my Mum had and the picture quality and resolution is nothing short of terrible. Zippity (58)
1350500 2013-08-03 22:15:00 Yeah depends on how you use it. If you're using it for text and things it's usually awful. At least these days you can get better quality through HDMI and things, back in the day it was bloody horrible if you were using a composite output to a TV.

Video and stuff should always look good, images too, but sitting looking at a web page and you're likely to have a rough time with the text.

It can be optimized a little with cleartype and stuff, but when my wife hooked up our spare 32" to her PC, it was pretty yuck.

1350501 2013-08-03 22:42:00 My main PC is only hooked up to TV, two of them in fact, The 32" LCD we use for everything has no issue with text.

She running at 1920x1080 through a VGA cable.

The other TV is a 55" LCD running through a HDMI cable, Its just too damn big for anything apart from movies, music, photos and call of Duty...
