"There are two places in New Zealand that accept bodies: the Otago School of Medical Science and the Auckland School of Medicine.

The body needs to be specially embalmed within 24 hours of death, which means that they can only take bodies from certain parts of the country (for example the Otago School of Medical Sciences accepts bodies from Otago, Invercargill, Canterbury and Nelson/Marlborough regions only)."

1350727 2013-08-08 02:20:00 I've told my wife several times although she refuses to take me seriously that on my 85th birthday I wish to be shot out into space in a capsule with a nice view port and at least two weeks's worth of sustenance (air/food/water/entertainment) and a suicide button (just in case).

I sincerely hope this is feasible in 50~60 years time.

1350728 2013-08-08 09:26:00 My mother told me "funerals are for the living, not the dead" .

<snip>

First I want a "do not resuscitate" order, so no heroic medicine is performed .

Second, I'd like to be cremated within one day of my death, and the funeral home personnel scatter my ashes into the ocean without ceremony .

If someone wants a memorial, they could do it at their leisure .

How do I make my wishes known? In particular, I want paramedic to know about my "do not resuscitate" order ASAP .

I was thinking about wearing a medical alert necklace, with these orders . However I don't know where to get them .

I assume the funeral arrangement could be spelled out in my will . Again I'm not sure about this .

MedicAlert bracelets and necklaces can be obtained from here (http://www . medicalert . co . nz/) . You may be able to have them place your requests on their files so that if they are contacted they will be able to advise of your wishes . I am not sure but I think you may need to have your doctor sign the form . Perhaps phone them and ask?

If you are wanting to be cremated within a day you would have to let your family know because wills are not usually looked at straight away so by the time yours gets read it would probably be too late for your wishes to be carried out .

Put these words into a sentence: Sea, Boat, Hire, Overboard, Tasman

You forgot Concrete .

I wouldn't tell my friend this, but the family asking him for a slide show for a week-long funeral is borderline sadism, for all involved .

Remember what your mother said? "Funerals are for the living, not the dead" . Funerals usually bring closure to a lot of deceased people's families . If your friend's family want a slideshow and a week-long funeral then that is their prerogative . It would only be sad if they could not afford it and were getting themselves into debt by feeling obliged or pressured to have a fancy funeral .

My father-in-law had a slideshow and a generous but not elaborate funeral because that is what his family wanted but I would not want my family to waste money in doing the same for me . I have instructed them to do the Sea-Boat-Concrete-Overboard-Tasman thing but will probably need to come up with a Plan B as I kind of get the impression they are not very keen on that idea .

1350730 2013-08-09 06:18:00 Natural Burials are available in Wellington. www.naturalburials.co.nz but I don't know if they are cheaper than conventional burials or cremations. I'm hoping that natural burials will be available where I live when the time comes. bellbird (6169)

Pretty damn selfish of you to ruin a good boat trip.

I dunno, if there's enough beer on the boat going out, (and no beer to be carried off after the trip) the occasion should be ok.
With those ingredients, the boat trip seems unnecessary, there must be a marine courier that could toss the package off at the twenty fathom mark.

But aren't you going to want to pull it back up in a weeks time to see if there are any crayfish to be had?

Yes, incredibly expensive they are too .
We gave up on them ages ago, not just the cost but they'd break all the time, got sick of repairing it .

There are also these:

On the contrary, the berley will provide excellent fishing for an hour or two if they pick the drop off carefully .

God I am disgusting .
