1350648 2013-09-02 07:16:00 It would run just fine on a modern PC.

You'd think so. Check my sig. It slowed my browser down to a crawl so I removed it. I know it rates very highly for detection but I'd rather live with Defender on windows 8 that has no noticeable effect on my performance.
I'm sure there's probably a setting somewhere that'd sort it out but if the default action is cripple my browser I'm not interested.

And yes I'm talking about Kaspersky AV (2012) not the suite. I got a 1 year licence for it with a router I bought so I thought I'd use it based on all the good reviews. I installed it first thing on a clean install of windows and several weeks later and after having installed firefox thinking explorer was faulty I figured out my browsing woes were caused by kaspersky. Some websites slow down so much it's almost unusable.

I know it can't happen to everyone or there'd be posts all over the interwebs, but that was my experience of it.
Anti-virus and anti malware writers have a fine line to tread, the more secure you make windows the less usable and more annoying it becomes. What balance of performance hit you are willing to take vs how well it detects malware/viruses (Virii ?) is a personal choice and you might never agree on what's best.
