| 1369019 | 2014-03-03 03:57:00 | It could be an intermittent fault on that drive, only way to tell for sure is to replace it. Smart is not allways helpfull, some bad drives may not show any real issues via smart. I have have seen faulty drives that run very very slow , but not so intermittently as yours. |

Could be something or the power output at the persons place. Been to several places where the problem is local, not the actual PC. What you can try is a third Location, or another room in the persons place. Theres been times when I've had that happen, runs fine in the workshop but not the the owners place ( I have UPS's on all workstations) , put in a UPS to manage the power output, and the UPS goes nuts with various power problems. A third location ( friends place etc) would be a good test to see if it does it away from your place. :2cents: |

Good idea trying another socket in their house, though. They have moved this PC after renovations so the socket has changed. Trouble is, owner can't remember when this problem started. |

| 1369023 | 2014-03-04 22:45:00 | Got hold of another sata HDD so have cloned the original to that. Now we'll just wait and see whether this drive has a go slow. If it holds up fine, it will be new drive purchase time. If it does have a go slow, it will be new computer time!! Thanks, guys, for advice. It was/is a frustrating one. |
