1350782 2013-08-08 23:29:00 Toms had an article that suggested Litecoin as a better alternative. Apparently it's been designed to favour GPU use and not supposed to be done with dedicated hardware like the ASIC stuff used for bitcoin. Bitcoin is due to get worse soon, some companies are in the process of building huge new machines that'll finish of GPU mining for good.

I was considering it as an experiment but I suspect our power prices and hardware costs vs returns are not economical. I have a 3 core phenom 2 I'm not using I thought would be good enough but it only has a 5450 which I suspect is like trying to dig a river with a teaspoon and buying a new graphics card and PSU is quite an investment for a venture I have no faith in.

1350783 2013-08-09 07:57:00 They already have done that.... ASIC mining is well and truly here! Chilling_Silence (9)
1350784 2013-08-09 11:56:00 Yes but they are upgrading, whatever is currently being done supposedly is going to jump 10 fold when all the hardware that has recently shipped goes live.
Article was a month or two ago though so it may have happened.

1350785 2013-08-10 00:23:00 AMD are actually the best at bitcoin mining, however I believe the horse has already bolted on that score.....AMD do have great hardware, its a shame their driver team isnt on the same level. The latest beta frame pacing driver has improved runt frames on resolutions up to 25x16 very well indeed, though those with eyefinity will have to wait along with DX9 games....CFx 7970 is very powerful at a good price.

Their driver team seems to be on the level of "The control centre needs more skinning and eye candy and stupid button layouts. Performance? WTF is that...?"
