1350588 2013-08-04 20:46:00 My 8 year old computer has to be replaced but I can't buy anything half decent and continue to pay for MySky ?
My parents signed up to Freeview. They don't watch much normal TV, news, Fairgo, not a lot else.

He then bought an LCD TV.

Then he changed the standard Freeview to one that allows recording another channel while watching a different one.

Then BBC news or some such stopped being shown, my mum gets up in the night and liked to watch it then...so they got Sky.

Interestingly he said the picture was way better....and before they couldn't get Choice, it had just refused to stay on it, it would switch away.

He is happy with Sky now but I guess it depends on what sort of thing you like to watch.

We like the docos, so I could never go back to the drivel on normal TV.

As for the PC, why don't you look at just upgrading it? Can work out cheaper....

1350589 2013-08-04 22:15:00 depends folks get the Asian sky channels without the base sky channels, sixty or eighty so bucks in standard definition. ... for them is worth it for maybe over five yrs now. ..... there's just no alternative. switch on and its on good morning show, news, documentary, drama, movies, sitcoms, talk back shows but for me I don't even watch the local 6pm news. have a tv card and rg6 into my room but not really interested Nomad (952)

Should you and would you regret it? only you can answer that.

Me I've never had it, looked into it a few times and can't see anything to justify the price for me so I just got better broadband instead. I'm not a sports fan though, it seems like that accounts for a lot of sky's business. The sky people who come knocking or ring me occasionally seem surprised at my complete lack of interest.

Have you spoken to a local TV aerial installer about UHF in your area? Coverage is not everywhere so sometimes it is a definate no but sometimes it just requires a bit of effort to find the right aerial and location to get coverage and the professionals tend to have a good Idea of what works where. It's worth finding out for sure as UHF is just better all round than the satellite version.

1350591 2013-08-05 03:11:00 We are in a rental at the moment while our home is EQ repaired. Only have Freeview. What a crap system. Don't know if it is just the particular one we have here, but I can't wait to get back home and have MySky back. Can't record more than one channel at a time, and only about 10 channels to choose from. Can't pause if another channel has been paused without bringing the first channel up to current. Menu looks like it was done by the teletext people. Surprises me that they can't make it look professional. theother1 (3573)
1350592 2013-08-05 03:27:00 For the channels they need, we only have old Sky. IMO that is on par with the PVR GUI of Igloo and Freeview on our Samsung TV. But if you want more features you may need to get a more advanced Freeview set-up box like dual tuners. With our Samsung TV, the freeview feature is limited but it is free. Our one only record TV on Freeview, cannot record HDMI/AV, the USB cannot be played back on computer either.

Hey the Igloo box which Sky TV I heard has a 50% stake in, doesn't even record. The USB feature is only for live pausing (for 1 channel).
Sky is paid TV .....

I youre a big sports fan, you may want to keep it

1350594 2013-08-05 08:39:00 99% sure that there is no UHF reception here, the Freeview coverage check say "unlikely" but I'll ring them anyway just to be sure. We used get analogue via the Southshore repeater. I think you pretty much need direct line of site to Sugarloaf for UHF which we don't have but why you were ok in Beckenham even though close to the hills Gary. Thanks for the input everyone. bellbird (6169)
1350595 2013-08-05 11:34:00 There is no way that I would give up Sky. Why should I?

I want to watch live international rugby and golf without advertisements every 7 minutes.

I want to watch live Formula One Motor racing, Super Bikes, Moto GP (when they show it), V8s etc etc

I want to watch great programmes like The Newsroom, Hell on Wheels, Boss, Boardwalk Empire and many others without the advertisements.................

Need I go on?

Yes, I am prepared to pay for my TV viewing enjoyment.

No, I am not interested in Shortland Street, Coronation Street or any of the other mindless crap that fills our airwaves on so called "free to Air" television.

You get what you pay for so stop your bitchin' :)

That's a bit harsh. I was asking about giving up Sky because I can't afford a new computer and continue my Sky subscription.

1350597 2013-08-06 02:38:00 You can get MotoGP on Sommetsports. Cant be bothered with Sky either. If we want to watch sports, we can go online to watch whatever sport Speedy Gonzales (78)
