1368541 2014-02-23 20:06:00 I'm not sure on the right terms here, but yesterday morning I changed my web/email host, and updated the dns zone settings on my domain, however *some* emails still are going through to my old mailbox, and when I browse to the domain via my ISP it still hits the old webhost, but when I browse using my 3G data it connects to the new host. Is there a way I can force the update? It looks like it might be my ISP (Slingshot) that hasn't updated, but possibly the problem is bigger than that.

Any suggestions?

cheers,
Mike.

1368542 2014-02-23 21:00:00 I'd give it a few days for something called DNS propagation. Was Slingshot the old host? They may have a static copy of their DNS records from what they expect to be hosting, then redirect their customers through that first. Tis' a bit complicated. Cellux (15145)

1368544 2014-02-23 22:39:00 DNS has something known as a "TTL" (Time-to-live) which is how long a server should cache the results before re-checking.

If yours are set to 72 hours, it could take Slingshot that long.

When doing mail changes, a great idea is to change the TTL to something real low, 5 minutes, a few days in advance. Do the change. Wait the 5 minutes+, then change it back to a more "sane" value.

Finally if the TTL has passed and Slingshot are still serving the wrong DNS, flick their support a message and tell them to flush their cached records (And fix their %@#$ DNS server for misbehaving) :D

1368545 2014-02-24 09:01:00 Thanks for your help, took about 24 hrs for web to update and probably closer to 30 before the email ended up in the right place. Hopefully other providers have already updated so I don't miss emails from others...

Cheers,
Mike.
