2004-08-28 02:56:00 | I have recently connected to Jetstream and bought a new USB DSL modem for it. This internet connection works fine. I have two computers called MAIN and SPARE. They are networked together, without a hub, by using a crossover cable between an ethernet card in each computer. This network connection works fine. Before getting Jetstream each computer connected independently to the internet using their own internal dial up modems. MAIN has XP Home installed as its operating system and also has Zone Alarm Pro installed as it's firewall. The XP firewall is disabled. SPARE has Win 98 SE installed as its operating system but no firewall. Both computers have Norton AV. Using the instructions in the Microsoft Network Guide I have tried to set up SPARE to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) but without success. When I try to access the internet from SPARE using IE the status line displays "opening page http:// -------" then displays "done" and I then get a "Cannot find server or DNS error" on screen. I have double checked that ICS is enabled on MAIN. Can anyone suggest what I need to do to get ICS working as I have a very annoyed wife who has lost her internet connection.

2004-08-28 04:53:00 | Thanks - afraid that this does not help. My computers talk to each other ok, it is ICS that does not work.

2004-08-28 05:04:00 | Go into the network settings on Spare and set: 192.168.0.1 as your Gateway and Primary DNS server Try this and post the results: Click Start Run type in: cmd Now, type: ping main ping 192.168.0.1 ping pressf1.co.nz ping 210.48.100.45 Do this from Spare and Main and post back both results :-) Chill.

2004-08-28 05:06:00 | SPARE has no DNS server specified. I'm not sure which it should be, but try MAIN's (internal) LAN IP address first. Then try the ISP's DNS address. SPARE has a DNS server which is the same as MAIN's IP address. Where do I find the ISP's DNS address?

2004-08-28 05:09:00 | My PCWorld arrived today!!! And there is an excellent two page "how to install " at the beginning. It should meet your needs for information. Leon

2004-08-28 05:39:00 | If you want zonealarm to work. Goto options, or prefs and find this is the gateway and ICS. Tick it. | Spacemannz (808) | |
