266075 2004-08-27 23:42:00 what a disaster, I am running WinXP (no SP2'd yet). I installed norton internet security yesterday and all hell broke loose. first the comp hung on the winxp splash screen and had to unplug from wall, then it booted up and I ran live update and upon rebooting after the updates were installed, it hung on the winxp splash screen again....another unplug from wall socket and finally got started in safe mode and used system restore to get back to a safe date, now I have 3 live update folders on my harddrive after I reinstalled NAV 2003 and updated. Now my dvd recorder drive thinks its a cd writer ! what is going on here ?. I got up this morning and the comp wouldnt start, again unplug from the wall socket and away she goes. Everything was fine until I uninstalled NAV 2003 and installed NIS 2004 . I wish I was on the 14th floor or something so I could throw this @&%!^ out the window. this is beyond a joke anymore. gtr676 (5919)
266076 2004-08-27 23:58:00 This scares me as was intending to update to NAV/NIS 2004 in the next day or so (my subscription has just run out). Did you have an earlier version installed? Was your install from a CD or by downloading? basil (2970)
266077 2004-08-28 00:20:00 I gave up on Norton a couple years ago and now use AVG.

Worry free.
Trouble free

Funny how the free stuff seems better than the stuff you pay for ?:|

266079 2004-08-28 00:23:00 Have been using NAV for many, many years - without any problem. bk T (215)
266080 2004-08-28 00:48:00 I use Sygate (http://www.sygate.com) And since then...no problem. Something good from a free program! FeuerBrennt (5971)
266081 2004-08-28 02:33:00 I had uninstalled NAV 2003 before I tried the install, I bought the program from the shop on a cd rom. am back to using NAV 2003, at least it still works.

good luck

266082 2004-08-28 03:11:00 I would of rung the help line , the number should be on the back of the booklet that come in the box.. If their product isn't working with what you purchased it to work with, surely they will help trouble shoot, or is that just me being naive. supergran (108)

I would suspect your machine. I have Nortons IS 2004 on 4 PC's and not one of them has given me any trouble at all with the install.
Just had a trouble with the Live Update but followed the instructions to download and install the lastest version and that fixed it.

Did you scan your machine before doing the install? Maybe something is trying to prevent you installing a virus scanning software before it can get itself detected.

266084 2004-08-28 05:57:00 Is your PC a recent model (last year or so) Compaq.

The reason I ask is I have had to repair a number of these machines after Norton Internet Security 2004 has been installed.

The reason problems are encountered is, Compaq in their wisdom chose to preinstall Norton Internet Security 2003 trial version on these PC's.

unfortunately they only preinstalled as far as loading the software, the registration and final configuration still needs to be completed and until it is NIS2003 does not show in Add/Remove Programmes or fully in programme files (in fact if the trial icon has been removed from the desktop it is hard to find, you need to look in Windows explorer to find it)

Once found, you need to install the 2003 version fully including the final restart, once 2003 is working you can uninstall it through Add Remove or Nortons Uninstaller in Programme files.

Then reastart your PC and install NIS2004 installation should now work fine.

I have only noticed this problem on Compaq PC's but chances are it likely applies to HP as well.
