266553 2004-08-29 06:51:00 most probably coz its so old nothing would hit it. Sasser or some variants will run on 95 BUT not infect it. As it hasnt got the right files to be infected with.

And blaster doesnt affect 95/98 either. Only NT systems.

Or ME. The exact reason I use OS/2, Linux or Win98(first edition) when using the internet. Who said newer was better?( awaits replies with glee ;)

266555 2004-08-29 07:33:00 Well I guess it depends on, whether u want to keep up with the times .

And whether you want to use a later version of Windows or not . Its only people who cant be bothered patching / updating XP, or NT systems, why they'll get worms like Sasser or Blaster . They've only got themselves to blame .

There's been enough coverage of what can and will happen if you dont
update when an update comes out .

266556 2004-08-29 07:35:00 while blaster and sasser only effect 2k/xp systems variants of it can hide in 9x/me systems (not sure about unix tho) and infect others from that pc. as per normal people are more worried about being affected by virus and are less concerned with being infected and certain not worried about infecting others. :( tweak'e (174)
266557 2004-08-29 08:14:00 NT4, NT4 server variants are also affected btw. mark.p (383)
266558 2004-08-29 08:14:00 So right about people not believing they are infected. Have some friends who "knew they wouldn't have any infections". I ran AVG free on the laptop which was only used for email. 148 infections. They now run AV software. theother1 (3573)
266559 2004-08-29 08:21:00 Did the same last weekend on a freind of a freinds ME box. Install AVG, Firefox , Kario and a few other goodies. Some folk just have no idea at all-got 2 doz bevys for it ;). OS updates aren't a pancia either, especailly NT based MS Windows. Hope MS learn a lesson for their next incarnation. But it will be a long wait till we find out...... mark.p (383)
