| 267250 | 2004-08-31 03:11:00 | My home PC is pretty similar to yours: XP2500+ Barton - 512MB RAM - 120GB HDD - DVD and DVD RW drives I installed SP2 last week and all has been running fine. But I did do a fresh install of Windows XP with SP2. What other software are you running?? |

| 267255 | 2004-09-01 02:40:00 | You may wish to try un-installing Norton's AV - it has a tendency toward treacle sometimes with SP2 beta. Because of this and a couple of other niggles, I tossed a rather new copy of NAV out, and went the AVG way. NAV would N O T uninstall fully, so it left some infuriating niggles in it's wake, but a re-install of XP when it came due fixed that. Simply disabling NAV didn't speed things up for me, it had to be deleted. Your mileage may well vary. R2 |

| 267257 | 2004-09-03 07:39:00 | > Great stuff I will give it a try...what about Trend > Micro??? I can say that getting rid of Norton AV 2003 when it expired was the best thing for ME. I was never going to upgrade to Norton AV 2004. I finished up upgrading to AVG Free version. Others have dropped Norton for Antivir and that works for them. There has only been one computer handed back to me recently where I suspect a virus. I am not sure yet as I have not had time to test it. What I do know is that the computer was running Norton AV 2002 and the virus checker defintions had not been updated since Oct 2003. Noted that one of the programs running was Kazza. This a dialup modem and Xtra as the ISP. I will check it out when I have time and do what I think is best for this person after discussion. |
