2004-08-30 10:36:00 | It depends on what the speed of your system is, on how well DVD's play And how many megs of ram you have helps. What happens?? Is it too slow, when a DVD plays?? If you have XP, you could use WMP. As Powerdvd will act as the DVD codec it needs. There are a lot of other DVD players. Most of them might be shareware. So, unless registered, maybe limited. You could try www.download.com do a search for dvd player

2004-08-30 11:04:00 | Hi currently oi hav 700hmz, 128 ram (8mb shared for onboard video card). The only thing i dnt like about winDVD is it takes ages to open and is slow for eg if i press open it will take 405 sec to open, rest playback is normal. The reason why i dnt want to stick wif PDVD is coz whenever i play any kind of file (mpg, divx, wmv, etcc.) it looses the brightness. Ones that happens, this problem appears in every single player.

2004-08-30 11:12:00 | And what version of windows do you use Gum Digger?? If XP I would say a bit of extra ram would help a lot. And is it P2, P3? 700 mhz? | Spacemannz (808) | |

2004-08-31 22:31:00 | I would up the ram to 256 or even 512+ if you can afford it. 128 isnt a lot for XP to run. XP not powerDVD would use most of the 128mb u have right now. | Spacemannz (808) | |

I think you might find that the 8mb onboard is where you've got your problems - DVD requires a decent amount of video RAM (we're talking 32mb+), and having it shared means that upping your onboard to 32mb will drop your system RAM to 96mb. A new video card might be a better investment than more RAM in your situation. I don't think any different DVD software would make much difference to you as you're restricting it with the video output. Mike. |
