267274 2004-08-31 03:06:00 I have a C: D: & G: drives.
G is a drive I installed since buying the computer (NTFS).
C (NTFS) & D (FAT 32), came with the computer.
D is a data drive & is only 2.5 gbs with 990 mbs free.
I am starting to install XP SP2, & I get an error message, that states that the drive is not big enough & I should free up some space; which leads me to the conclusion that it wants to install on the D: drive (the other 2 drives have tons of space).
Do I need this D drive? & does it have to be FAT 32? (personally I don't think so as my laptop came with only a C drive and identical OS - XP Professional).
My feeling is, that if I get rid of the D drive, but not the data of course, and just run everything off the C drive, then I'll have a lot more flexibility with space.
The 30 gb G drive is used for saving files onto.

267275 2004-08-31 03:15:00 The D: might be a recovery partition for your PC so I wouldn't touch it unless you have got a recovery CD set as well with Windows XP and drivers and software that came with the PC.
Where are you trying to install SP2 from? A CD or from one of the HDD's?

267276 2004-08-31 03:17:00 Good day,
I believe SP2 requires 2GB free hard drive space to do it's install, since it keeps copies of many of your old files. If you don't have this - it is going to sulk. Blowed if I know what drives it will allocate this among, though I suspect it will be C:.

267277 2004-08-31 04:02:00 SP2 did the same thing here. Even tho I installed it off C, which has 13gb spare it decided to dump whatever onto G, which is 92gb (part of a partitioned 120gb hdd).

Why, I wouldnt have a clue.

Good point, probably should look at trying to get it to work off C:
