| 267332 | 2004-08-31 04:18:00 | Hi folks, What is the best video editing software you can download free from the net? We need to capture and edit footage from a National Panasonic DV camcorder, and we run on ME, not XP. Any replies and any ideas appreciated. Joe Davies |

| 267334 | 2004-08-31 04:32:00 | I dont know about free Video editing software. Umm, Windows ME has Movie Maker hasnt it?? That can capture video. Has the DV camera got firewire or USB 2 or other on it?? If USB 2, it maybe too slow for transferring video from the cam to the hard drive... Firewire is a lot faster.... Does ME detect the cam when you plug it in?? I take it, it does? If not, it needs drivers. |

| 267339 | 2004-08-31 05:06:00 | www.usb.org & www.camcorderinfo.com Says: USB1.0 = 1.5mbps USB1.1 = 12mbps USB2.0 = 480mbps IEE1394 = 100, 200, and 400mbps IEE1394b = 800mbps DVD playback @ 1x is around 1150kbps IIRC, so technically USB1.1 is plenty fast for capturing at DVD Quality ;-) ....Or have I totally miscalculater here?? |

| 267340 | 2004-08-31 05:11:00 | As Chill has already said, USB2.0 is actually faster than firewire used for digital video camcorders, so its fine. In terms of software, there is one I used a while back called MovieXOne, which was freeware. I can't rememebr the site, but a google search is sure to bring it up. Also, Avid (one of top digital video editing software/hardware manufacturers) also has a freeware version of their program - Avid Free DV or something like that. Otherwise, Movie Maker in WinME would suffice for basic work. |

| 267341 | 2004-08-31 05:19:00 | All the capturing i tried via usb 1/2 was resticted to mpeg, DV was not an option allowed by the software. Are any of you saying you have sucesfully captured video in DV format via usb or have you just looked at the specs and claimed its possible? And as to the comment that usb would "take all day"....it captures as the video is played,it doest transfer it over as such.The amount of time taken to play the file and capture it isn't affected. |
