267872 2004-09-01 09:22:00 While loading Windows XP Pro, blue screen with the following error message:

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down ....

IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time .....

Technical Information:
**STOP: 0x0000000A, 0x00000806, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804EDCD5

Begining dump of physical memory
Dumping physical memory to disk (%) "

When dumping is complete (100%), the machine shuts down and restart Windows.

Tried to start in Safe Mode and debuging mode, all unsuccessful.

Looks like memory stick problem, unfortunately haven't got a spare stick to try out.

Used a Win98 startup disk (floppy) and boots up OK

Suggestions, please.

Cheers

267873 2004-09-01 09:31:00 Put IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL into Google and check out the first and third links. Seems to be quite a number of different causes/solutions for that one. Susan B (19)
267874 2004-09-01 09:45:00 This is what my Microsoft book of words says about this Stop Error:

A kernel-mode process or driver attempted to access a memory location without authorization. This Stop Error is typically caused by faulty or incompatible hardware or software. The name of the offending device often appears in the Stop message and can provide an important clue to solving the problem.

If the error message points to a specific device or category of devices, try removing or replacing devices in that category. If the Stop message appears during Setup, suspect an incompatible driver, system service, virus scanner, or backup program.

Apparently, no 'offending device appears in the STOP message.

Have tried to re-install Windows but it terminated half-way, with the same error message as above.

267876 2004-09-01 10:46:00 When re-installing Windows, the stop message is:
STOP: 0x0000000A (0xF000E987. 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x808247A4)

Any clues at all?

267877 2004-09-01 10:51:00 Maybe it would be a good idea to test the RAM using memtest86 from here:http://www.memtest86.com/

It is installed onto a floppy from Windows and is self-booting.

MS suggest a virus scanner could be the problem, from many posts lately, in fact for years, Norton NAV seems to be a major problem a lot of the time.

Testing it now. It seems it is taking ages to test the memory. How long it usually takes, from your experience?

But when performing a reinstallation, virus scanner is not loaded. It must be hardware related.

267879 2004-09-01 11:02:00 Do a search for the stop error numbers bkt . Last Stop I had with IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL it turned out to be software but the numbers are too different ot advise on that basis .

Try these sites:

Event ID ( . eventid . net/search . asp" target="_blank">www . eventid . net)

Stop Messages ( . org/win5/kbestop . php" target="_blank">aumha . org)

I've bookmarked another good one I found helpfull but can't find it at the mo, it is probably in Firefox on windows . Give me a few minutes to boot over .

267880 2004-09-01 11:59:00 Just to add an item.

Before the Blue screen while loading Win XP, a lighter blue screen saying that
"Checking file system on C:
Type of file system is FAT32,

One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency ...."

A list of errors found and then the BSOD appears. :(
