267792 2004-09-01 04:46:00 I have Win XP.I changed address with my Jetstream Xtra Surf 256kbps & have dropped connection speed from 4Mbps to 1.8Mbps due to increased distance from xchange.I did a speed test & found I got 257kbps & when I downloaded a program it averaged 35kbps-I think about right.
My question is-are these figures about right & what does connection speed have to do with it all Thankyou rdee

267793 2004-09-01 04:53:00 Connection speed is irrelevant coz it's just what the device is theoretically capable of, and in some cases is only showing you a speed within your system.

Distance from your exchange has a huge impact on your real speed. You should do a test on the jetsreamgames site, and if below 2Mb/s you could get Telecom to check it out

267794 2004-09-01 04:54:00 [edit] Sorry - I didn't read correctly and now see you're on the Surf plan. Please ignore my 2Mb/s comments Greg S (201)

if you only have 256kb/s connection how could you get 4Mb/s ????

>I did a speed test & found I got 257kbps

you have a 256kb/s connection and it runs at 256, perfect ! it hasn't slowed down.

267796 2004-09-01 04:55:00 [double edit] 35KB/s is a good speed for Surf - you won't get better, unless there's a rare surge in the service Greg S (201)
267797 2004-09-01 04:56:00 'Your line speed is approximately 275.5 Kbps or 33.8 K bytes/sec'...........hows that for a 256k connection ! drcspy (146)

My 256k connection shows in the router properties as being connected at 6Mb/s - however the resultant speed is limited according to how I am logged in - eg, 256kb when on Jetsurf or 6 Mb when on the JSG Realm. That's likely where the figures were obtained.
