What u can also do, is look for default settings in the BIOS BK, which may also be under the boot menu . Reset them to the default settings . Then put the IDE devices back on AUTO save the BIOS settings . Then see what happens . . . . . |

| 267935 | 2004-09-02 22:46:00 | Ah ok no worries . Umm it still doesnt go tho! Yup, the only thing we have to check now is the CPU . It COULD be the CPU, coz my previous one . XP would still load, BUT crashed frequently due to it being 1/2 fried i spose . (usually when I turned it on in the morning, and like more than 10 times a day)! BUT I noticed that when I turned off Hyperthreading, (don't know if yours suports HT, it might if its a 800 fsb CPU), it didnt crash as often . BUT I dont suggest turning HT off (if your CPU supports it), coz it does come in handy for some things . And if off, once XP is installed (If XP ever manages to get installed) . It may NOT be that easy to get XP to recognise that it's an HT CPU . As I said before I DO have a spare 1 . 5 (I had a 1 . 7 too, BUT lost it somewhere in this flat LOL), I could install in that system . BUT someone from your place, would have to either bring the case here, so I can install it, or someone come here get the CPU and install it at your place . Another thing is, have a look around on that motherboard, see if anything looks cracked/burned . Some motherboards are susceptible to capacitors burning or dying . . . So, look at the capacitors, for any sign of burning around them . |

Having read all this we get to a situation where you get ONE beep. This will indicate a POST. This is normal like ONE beep. No beeps is not normal. Now that you have got this far use Memtest to check the RAM. Use the floppy to boot from and leave it running overnight. What version of Windows are you trying to install? |

| 267939 | 2004-09-03 08:52:00 | LOL i used to get a BEEP. But don't now. Dont know why. Or whether ASUS forgot to put it back in when they updated their latest BIOS for this thing. BUT it runs fine. No prob at all. Might be the speaker. BUT oh well, at least its running OK here. He? was trying to install XP I think. The ram has been checked. Its OK. |
