| 267912 | 2004-09-02 03:15:00 | I would also try if theres a lot of cards in that case remove everything BUT the video, the ram the cpu and hdd. Try installing XP then... Then at least it maybe easier to find the prob... Thats if u havent tried this yet. | Spacemannz (808) | ||

| 267914 | 2004-09-02 03:33:00 | I agree with spacemannz - if you passed the memtest ok then it's time to strip most unnecessary bits out and start looking at the hard drive . BTW I once saw a brand new IBM PC fail with a "converting FAT32 to NTFS message" on the screen when I first fired it up - I can't remember how we got it going again (it was absolutely stone motherless dead with no response just as you described) and it was a real bugger (pardon my French) to get going plus it was brand new out of the box - it may sound stupid but it was really really hot and way humid at that time (last January during a heatwave and the floor below housed an ISP which had masses of servers and the building aircon failed that day, no windows - you get the picture) - you're not running a gas heater in the room are you? I know, stupid question but gotta ask these things... ;) |

| 267915 | 2004-09-02 03:35:00 | Put the hdd as master if there is ONLY 1 hdd in that case. What else is connected to the hdd ide connection on the motherboard?? If thats on cable select?? another hdd or cd?? You're not swapping / buying anything. The more things u can take out as in PCI, the more chance of pinpointing the prob why its crashing. If it still crashes with the modem OUT, obviously the modem isnt causing the crash. You can put it back from where u removed it from. |

| 267916 | 2004-09-02 03:58:00 | You can disable various things like USB in the Bios as well. Not a dodgy Bios is it BTW. I've no idea how to check that and wouldn't recommend flashing untill everything else has been excluded. Cheers Murray P |

Also removed DVD ROM & put back, it's OK > |

| 267918 | 2004-09-02 05:02:00 | Cool put the ide devices ALL on master and slave. NOT cable select. And if u have a CD and DVD, put one as master one as slave. On the secondary IDE connection, on the mobo. If you have more than 1 hdd, connect to the primary ide connection on the mobo. And switch the hdds to master and slave as well. And put each ide device on AUTO in the BIOS (for primary and secondary), whichever applies. Also, if the mobo primary ide connection has a BLUE connection, try and connect a ide ribbon with blue at one end to it. |

But the primary cable is YELLOW, does it really matter? Booted by BSOB refuses to go away. :( Tried to put in an old HDD (17 G known to be good) but it couldn't regonize this old stuff. |

| 267920 | 2004-09-02 05:58:00 | Umm boot from the CD. Dont try and reinstall over a previous version of Windows.... chuck the cd in go to the bios change the bootdisk to cd save the settings reboot. Let the cd do its thing. The 1st time u put the cd in, it'll say press a button down the bottom left. Press a key. ONLY once. If it manages to go thru one screen without rebooting, leave it till it finishes. DON'T press anymore buttons, (unless it asks for your name / the normal stuff), until or when and if the install finishes. Nah, yellow should be fine. Just as long as it fits...on the ide connection. What do u mean it couldnt recognise the old stuff?? If u replaced the old hdd in the case, with this 17gb, you can either put the 17gb as Master on the primary ide connection, and change the jumper on the old hdd as a slave...Make sure u connect the power connections to all devices. Hopefully, you'll have enough connections from the PSU for these. Are all the ide devices now recognised by the BIOS? as Master/Slave etc? |

| 267921 | 2004-09-02 06:21:00 | Thanks, Spacemannz for your patience. Booted from CD and everything OK untill it says it's starting Windows, ... here it comes the BSOB! When I put in my old HDD, set as master (unplugged existing HDD) it couldn't read my old HDD - read disk error! I am running out of ideas ... |
