268386 2004-09-02 09:57:00 I am running out of room on my 20GB XP laptop, 2 partitions.
I think I've cleaned out all the junk but may have duplicate files.
Can anyone recommend a simple, reliable, free duplicate file finder?

Many thanks,
Hopeless.

268387 2004-09-02 10:07:00 The fastest way to free up space is to delete / archive some of the largest files first. You can find files based on size using some of the advanced search options under Windows Explorer (press Ctrl & F if you can't find it on the menu). Sorry, can't help with a duplicate file finder.

268388 2004-09-02 10:11:00 Try this another way to get a bit of extra room is to get rid of the old system restore points. when you right click on your c:drive and select disk cleanup click more options on the top menu bar you can remove all but the most recent restore points which clears a lot of space

268392 2004-09-02 17:42:00 It sounds like you need MoreSpace, it finds duplicate files. Lists files in order of size and cleans up unneeded clutter on your C drive. It is shareware but works without a licence. Get it here,_

268393 2004-09-02 21:03:00 I would advise against removing duplicate system files, they may be duplicated for a good reason. So it is a case of 'remover beware'. Terry Porritt (14)
268394 2004-09-02 21:29:00 I have SystemWorks 2001, which contains a duplicate file finder and believe me there are literally hundreds of duplicate files on a normal system. However, you will find the vast majority in different folders and you remove any of these at your peril.

Personally, I have never found this facility to be much help freeing up space. :(
