267812 2004-09-01 05:14:00 Would a normal USB port supply power to run a Canon LIDE 20 Scanner or do I have to buy a powered USB Hub for the job? arjay (1202)
267813 2004-09-01 05:15:00 If the scanner doesnt come with an external power supply, then yes.

If it has a power socket on the back - Then no, you will need a mains adapter for it.

267815 2004-09-01 05:42:00 I have a Canon D646U here and it said it doesnt need power, altho it has the power connection and USB cable.

Which is a load of bollocks lol coz it wont work without the power and USB.

267816 2004-09-01 06:18:00 What rubbish!! Were does it say it does not need power? I have one, and if you read the manual, it says, connect the USB cable - connect the AC Adapter to the scanner. If you don't know what you are talking about, it is better to keep from saying anything.

267817 2004-09-01 06:32:00 Now, Now Fella's. No need to get nasty.
I am looking at buying a Canon LIDE 20 USB Scanner and just want to make sure that it will run on a normal USB port. The scanner has no power socket,

267818 2004-09-01 06:46:00 Scanners and printers can suck a fair bit of juice, make sure your PSU can handle it. If it doesn't make any difference to you consider a seperately powered scanner rather than one via the USB bus.

267819 2004-09-01 07:15:00 Looking at the scanner specifications (www.canon.com.au), it gives a power usage of 2.5W (max), 1.25W (standby, with no mention of needing a powered hub. I guess having the power via the USB port mean less cords and power plugs to find homes for. Jen C (20)
267820 2004-09-01 08:23:00 Looking at the Specs that Jen C supplied, it states that it is powered from the USB port, so there should be no problems.
