2004-09-03 09:03:00 | I used to buy PC World religiously up to around 2001 after then I found the content to be less focused on areas and topics I found interesting. Now before I get flamed to a crisp, I learnt most of what I know now from PC world and I am not rubbishing the mag. In fact quite the opposite. I like to buy it when I find an edition with an article of interest but bugger me if this months edition is shrink wrapped like a copy of playboy. Short of slyly ripping the packet open with my teeth when the newsagent isn't looking, I can't have a quick browse and see whats in this months edition. In addition the cd is removed to be collected at time of purchase so you have stuff all idea on whats on the disc. Quite annoying.

2004-09-03 09:14:00 | paperplus rotorua doesnt remove them...unless i get there before da fulla who works there does..am kinda glad coz i get to see whats on the cds (the list on cd face) but they sealed this one because there was 2 magazines instead of the normal one...thats why they sealed it to keep the magazines together.. what i reckon they should have done is perhaps unsealed one and if u wanted to see whats in it, ask at the counter and u get 5 minutes to flick through...like music shops give u 5 mins to check out a cd using headphones...

2004-09-03 09:30:00 | I still buy from newsagent and this is the first month that it has been packaged/sealed. Confused me until I opened it (purchased first of course) and found there was an added mag "going mobile" included which explained the packaging. The CD contained SP2, just incase you hadn't heard. | sam m (517) | |
2004-09-03 09:35:00 | ROFL You are joking I presume? R2 Besides service pack 2 which I have already. Which is my point, if the cd is removed by the shop. How do you know whats on it aside from the cover description ?

2004-09-03 09:45:00 | I let my subscription lapse for much the same reason as Highlander. But I never did get round to browsing before I buy. I just pick it up automaticly. But I do get mad every time I get an issue that contains so much off topic articles. I swear I'll never buy it again, but I always do. Now if someone in NZ would start a genuine computer mag I'd be the first to sign up Jack

2004-09-03 10:04:00 | As PCW provides this forum free for our benefit, I'm sure they would appreciate PF1 users subscribe to PCW magazine. It seems somewhat petty to insist that you must inspect the mag & CD contents at the newsagent, & to complain of the shrink wrapping. As others have said, there was good reason for this. Why not support PCW & subscribe to the mag? It's well worthwhile & arrives in your mail before the shops.

2004-09-03 10:41:00 | I haven't bought the mag since the Farmers add was run stating that their comp with a fx5200 was the most powerful gaming machine on the NZ market. | metla (154) | |
2004-09-03 10:53:00 | "It seems somewhat petty to insist that you must inspect the mag & CD contents at the newsagent" I respect your opinion that to you it seems petty but I like to be informed on what I am buying. If I deem it value for money I will purchase it. In this case my ability to do so is limited. "Why not support PCW & subscribe to the mag ? It's well worthwhile " For the clearly stated reasons above. And I might add that I still have most issues from 1996 to 2001 and sundry issues from then stored in my workshop which indicates that I have indeed given a fair amount of support to PCW. I repeat I am not bashing PCW I'm bashing the shrinkwrap :-)
