I havn't noticed although I was holding shift down as I was inserting disks as I was re-installing my apps after doing a system restore then sp2 installation (as sp2 originally crashed things). This was because I wanted only to install from OS specific folders/apps. Holding shift normally bypasses autorun and I was in a hurry due to going out of town.

268594 2004-09-07 22:36:00 Upgraded three PC's with SP2. Smooth installation process. In my assessment it was more seamless than SP1 was.

Prior to update disabled Zonealarm. Re-enabled it after update and disabled XP's firewall system - cause I know ZA better thats all. So peer-peer network unaffected, with DSL sharing and printers all OK.

2 PC's are quite simple - AMD 1GHz, 40GB HD, 256MB ram, CD-rom Office 97 and using IE still work properly - don't know if faster, but not slower in any way.

Third PC does have issues though - noticed on startup that Nero's InCD seems to pause for some 10 seconds or more - definitely didn't do that before. Haven't sorted it out yet.
And it uses a Summagraphics digitizer for AutoCAD work which now doesn't work properly - issue with mapping screen area to tablet area in Windows itself - works OK with AutoCAD still. Manufacturers responded overnight to query and are 'aware of the problem'. This PC has 1GB ram, Barton 2.5, CD-RW with Nero 5.5 and SATA in Raid0 config.

2 out of 3 aint bad?? but 3 would've been better.

Home PC can wait ...

:D I agree, very good odds for Lotto. One hopes that Pilots and Surgeons aim for a slightly higher grade. :(
And MS - - What do they aim at ?
(Who said wallets ?)

268596 2004-09-08 08:35:00 riscpc: in answer to your query re: auto running of magazine cover CDs, yep, no problem. PCW CDs start just as they did before SP2. Terry Porritt (14)
268597 2004-09-08 08:59:00 Incidently, and I forgot to mention this, autoplay of CDs can be enabled/disabled using TweakUi in the XP Powertoys package. Powertoys is usually in Essentials on the PCW CD. Terry Porritt (14)
268598 2004-09-08 10:57:00 Hi
Installed sp2 on HP notebook with xp Home from cd bundled with PCWorld.
All seems to be ok but security center does not recognise NAV2004.
Also a newsgroup I usually log onto which has pop-ups seems to load slow. Could anyone tell me if it is possible to add the newsgroup site as an exception. If yes- how to?
Cheers

268599 2004-09-08 21:05:00 Add it to the pop-up blocker settings. If u have the pop-up blocker turned on. Enter the name of the site under tools/pop-up blocker / popup-blocker setting in Internet Explorer.

And click on Add. See if that helps.

You said in part:

>Incidently, and I forgot to mention this, autoplay of CDs can be enabled/disabled using TweakUi in the XP Powertoys package . Powertoys is usually in Essentials on the PCW CD .

Yes I have TweakUI installed and the box checked to tell it to auto run the CD . but it doesn't . Now I have seen this happen on newly built computers in a PC Shop after they upgraded Windows XP with SP2 . Yet the very next computer they build they find it works ok; even if that machine is identical to one that it doesn't work properly on . They can't find a solution either .

Oh well, I guess it has to be said, It is Microsoft that we are talking about . here .

Cheers,
