2004-09-03 12:15:00 | A shocker!! Running XP Pro on Barton 2500+ and 512 Ram on Gigabyte M'board. Did monthly tidy up and backup and tried to install SP2. Puter started restarting over and over and over. Safe mode or whatever the same. I diabled GoBack 3 as i suspected it was the prob. No change. I rang MS freephone who were helpful. Suggested GoBack 3 may be the trouble, so renamed the last 2 drivers that started before the restart each time (both GB****.sys). No change, still restarting. Plan c was to repair with original Win XP with the original CD. Done. Now no modem, and no way to establish a connection. Turns out this happens if you reinstall XP over SP1. So installed SP1. Took 2 tries but done. Now no USB. Uninstalled all USB drivers (have you ever tried working without a mouse?) and restarted. USB all found and installed. Modem and internet all OK. But... do I try SP2 agin now?

2004-09-03 14:09:00 | All went reasonably well but got messages telling me my AV (via System Suite, Trend Micro) couldn't be seen nor my Outpost firewall. No big deal shut down the security centre in 'services'. I de-fragged, very slowly, and I'm running quicker than pre-sp2. However, I went into Limewire to hunt for some music and my recent downloads using my new Jetstream have gone. How the heck did that happen?

2004-09-03 22:25:00 | Updated 3 machines, 1 PIII500, 1 PII400 and 1 P4 2.8. All went pretty smoothly without any problem, so far. | bk T (215) | |
2004-09-04 03:38:00 | Would I have to disable GoBack before installing SP2? Many thanks for the disc and this thread. Hopeless.

2004-09-04 08:56:00 | Very many thanks for the SP2 disc with the mag. HP OmniBook 800MHz (the machine I'm using to send this) - closed all running programs (Norton IS for example) and installation completed in 35 minutes without any hitches. Maybe it's imagination, but everything seems to be running faster now. Oh well, I suppose it's the turn of my desktop next when I can tear myself away from PressF1.

2004-09-04 10:47:00 | The update i attempted (twice now) failed and was a complete p i t a. On checking the logs it was a Go Back driver that was last to load before the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL blue screen and restarts. I has uninstalled GoBack, not just disabled it, but it still appears to be the problem, though Symantec won'i admit it yet. I suggest you wait a couple of weeks.

2004-09-04 10:53:00 | When I installed sp2 on my Packard Bell 1.6ghz box over xpsp1 I had the same constaly looping reboots as Buck mentiones although I didn't have the Goback software. I ran the Packard Bell system restore disks with the windows&format only option and then installed sp2. I have re-installed my core apps and data backups (done the previous day) and every thing is runing fine. Games etc can wait untill I get back from holiday. I am unsure what was the cause although I had Norton Anti-virus 2003, BotoXP, stylexp as well as a handfull of other utilities I havn't reinstalled. Also were Unreal Tournament and MYHTPC (with it's addon modules) and the sidewinder profiler v4.
