268970 2004-09-04 13:59:00 I find it amusing that after getting a negative responce to his idea instead of thinking "hey,my idea stinks" he has instead decided everyone who voiced a negative opinion must be a computer repair person who stands to lose.....and thats why they are givig negative responces. metla (154)
268971 2004-09-04 14:04:00 Your statement is fair enough.

Thanks for the final line it was pretty clear in the statement ;-)

to anyone though: what would be your suggestions for better computer practises for the future? i assume my ideas are just ideas, maybe others have their ideas which might be interesing the concept of improvement of computer repair offerings.

My assumption is that standards will change, i would be interested to hear what people think will change or should change.

I think everyone will have their opinion which is fair enough, but i do believe in expressing opinions they should not be of derogatory nature

I do feel though that people who stand to lose from something happening though are less inclined to do it. which i assume will prove true in general, and as rob said brielfy which includes myself and i assume in general everyone

268972 2004-09-04 14:07:00 hmm i just noticed you message after i finished typing mine.

I am for the idea of knowledge development, the ideas do not have to be solely mine

In general i am quite keen to gain more knowledge and hear ideas which help develop knowledge

I try to develop knowledge myself as others do, sometimes it works sometimes it may not.

I see this forum is not solely a way to learn about speciifc current issues but i would also like to utilise to think in a broader sense of concepts as well which i do in parts, although in other parts i may use it for other purposes.

that does not mean however i come here and insult people if i dont agree with what they say

268973 2004-09-04 14:10:00 Apparently, not every attempt at self medication with dodgy substances will produce a Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Even on self promoting websites. R2x1 (4628)
268974 2004-09-04 14:10:00 Rather than regulation why not go for the Darwinian approach? Survivial of the fittest. Those that provide a shoddy service or over-charge should or would go out of business through having no repeat business. Let the market forces push the weaker operators aside. No I'm not being overly harsh, from experience I can vouch for a couple of painters who will never step foot in my house again - that's the efficient workings of a free market, plus I'll tell 10 people who the shoddy painters are. There's your answer. andrew93 (249)
268975 2004-09-04 14:12:00 Yes, and I am still scratching my arse and wondering where he is coming from. Some may say that I'm a simple man, therefore my questions are also simple, but they seem awfully hard to get answers to. Rob99 (151)

Maybe that questions how systems that are in place work.
In some senses what you say is true, it could have a certain proportion that will work like this. and i do see some merit in the idea.

However i am wondering if they find that sometimes establishing safety standards may be in the overall better interests

e.g. eletrical safety, OSH otherwise

I assume that sometimes standards are established because they are seen for the purpose of producing more overall gain with a probability thats weighted for its value from statistics or otherwise. I would actually assume that some professors or people may actually in a variety of cases hold merit also

I can understand that in some cases all theory or all practical may not work, and in other cases a balance may not work also as cases will vary. I would assume though by achieving various levels of education in itself is not necessarily bad as it establishes a certain common level of understanding which has similar traits as providing education as people grow up to achieve a standard which some deem may have benefits

As i said before though i dont have enough figurative data to calculate it clearly, and am relying on opinion and theory as i assume others here are as well.

I would definitly agree with you that the answers are hard to find.

MY assumption is that we all face limitations of understanding in what we can percieve being finite entities with finite abilities, which is also an assumption.

If this were true that we rely on assumption then everything we may do may be limited by what assumptions we make, but then this may be an assumption

268978 2004-09-04 14:26:00 Not the answer I was hoping for.

Please answer only the question in the next sentence.

What financial gain do you stand to make?
Rob99 (151)
268979 2004-09-04 14:32:00 I am not sure exactly, i could assume what i could make some from computer repairs maybe as i actually do computer repairs part time, only very ocassionally www.computersupport.co.nz

I actually recently have been trying to apply to work in various computer shops, one of which is Ezcyom computers but i am not sure whats happening with that at the moment

In a way it may be possible i am actually doing my wallet an injustice as being too honest or producing insight which is against financial gain may actually do myself a disservice

my intention of hope was that i could try and develop more knowledge... over time i wish to contribue to the knowledge system in the world... i dont know if i will achieve it but i like the logical idea of knowledge gain which is what i feel i was attempting for.

Sometimes i think that gains for overall society may be better than the individual, but then to be honest i wont always do things for the better of society and there will be times i will look after my own interests, but i do sort of wish that sometimes things could be done for the benefit of society as a whole more than the individual, i guess this won't always be the case though, and maybe other will have elements of this in their life as well
