Thanks for that CYaBro.
After reading the threads here my confidence is starting to come back.
At the moment I'm just going thru programs I've personalised and noting all the adjustments I've done.

Will probably do a clean reinstall of XP Pro SP1 before loading SP2. It needed a good springclean anyway.

Might even beat Bruce to it ! :D

268554 2004-09-03 06:20:00 XP SP2 installed from PC World CD. onto 2.5 year old box with 512 MB Ram, 60GM Hard Drive
Floppy Drive plus 40 x CDRW,
Stopped all programs first including virus checker & screen saver.
No problems. AVG now shows up in security.
Gimp, Mozilla & a newer version of Open Office that were installed from last months CD all OK as is everything else. Only use IE for MS updates.
Sending this via Safari on my Mac with OSX 3.5.Panther. :-)

268555 2004-09-03 08:20:00 Installed it on a Celeron 1.2ghz, 384mb RAM machine today. No problems yet. One thing though, is that my Hard Drive space seemed to go from 700mb free to 1.4gb free ?:|

Ah well, good to have Hibernate again :)

I just want to say thanks for the disk on this month's PCWorld - it's great. I usually share my old PCWorlds (and CD's) with friends but this one is being kept (may need it again).

Went very well - a small hitch but I think the boss (me wife) had finger troubles (me duck quickly). I've got this vague feeling that her lappie is a bit slower - perhaps there are some installation files one can delete?

You're the MAN

Well fine. Are you aware that SP2 actually includes SP1?

If you use WinXP as your operating system then certainly (if you want to) reformat your hard drive and install your operating system.
The point I am making is that if you have a Win XP O/S CD rather than a recovery disk then just install that CD and then make sure all drivers are installed for printers, scanners, modems, sound cards, motherboard drivers etc are installed.

You will not need to install SP1 before installing SP2.

SP2 includes all fixes from SP1.

I have upgraded mine but did not use the CD from PCWorld to do so.

My PC is using a Soltek Motherboard with an AMD3200 cpu.
1 Gig RAM and a Winfast A360. I have two 120 Gig Seagate hard drives and one is used as a backup using Ghost courtesy of PCWorld.

Normally I use Office 2003, PaintShopPro8, Outlook for Email and have a Buffalo Wireless card for the Internet access.

I might add that I also connect via the internet to FidoNet using Termail which I bought about 1997. This still works here.

I am not about to reformat to delete SP2.

268562 2004-09-03 12:06:00 hi

for myself, as i have installed SP2 from all of my 3 computers in my house.. at the moment. i am not aware any problems...

but for my Pentium 4 1.7MHz with 512MB SD Ram and 40GB HDD (separate into 2 partition), using Windows XP Pro... i away at 7:45pm... and do a speed disk using norton systems work.. it take almost 2 hours to complete... if it come from the slowness of the Windows XP SP2? usually in the past, i don't need that long to defrag...
