2004-09-03 01:01:00 | Running a 2.8Ghz Prescott CPU on Windows XP Home. Installation of SP2 went fine (I used the PC World CD). I haven't come across any problems, but since changing from PC-Cillin anti-virus to PC-Cillin Internet Security 2004 I've had a eroor message pop up after the PC boots into Windows. It refers to something called "Gearsec" I checked the registry, start-up etc but can't find anything anywhere. Despite this the PC runs fine, slight increase in performance and IE doesn't seem to be a dog... bedsides I use Mozilla anyways so its not an issue. All my other MS and non-MS apps work fine, only thing I havn't tried are my games... I don't have any installed as this is a fresh install of XP Home (again) So once I get some free time I will try Doom 3, Unreal:Awakening and maybe Neverwinter Nights. Cheers chiefnz

2004-09-03 01:12:00 | Running an elderly Pentium 3 at 996 MHz with 768 MB Ram, Office 2003, Photoshop 6, Nero, Ghost, AVG 7, Ad-aware, Spybot, etc. The SP2 has been installed for three days and looks good without problems. Most noticeable are the small (beneficial) security changes to OE6. | Scouse (83) | |
2004-09-03 01:20:00 | Ha, Heaton mentioned an interesting point I'd forgotten....Registry cleanup, and left over files. I ran System Mechanic and Registry First Aid, removed lots of junk files and 89 registry entries. So maybe SP2 is not that good at tidying up after itself! | Terry Porritt (14) | |
2004-09-03 01:21:00 | Haven't installed it yet. Have a Toshiba Satellite a10 Notebook. BUT am very interested if anyone with a successful install has Word97 on their computer and found it still works with SP2. That is what is holding me up at the moment. Glad there seem to be lots of success stories. Regards, Marg.

2004-09-03 03:23:00 | I've updated both my machines without any real trouble at all. (desktop- Compaq Presario 1.6GHz & laptop HP ze4520 2.4GHz Celeron; both run XP Pro). The only thing was, my wireless LAN didn't work very well at all until I turned off the SP2 firewall (I have Kerio); now everything is fine.
