The ms backup software is poor....

268471 2004-09-03 12:31:00 If you have InCD with Nero then WinXP backup will happily back up directly to a CDRW, at least it does on my computers.
Just tick the data you can't afford to lose (probably My Documents, but untick My music etc that have huge files), and choose D:(if that's your CD drive) to backup to.
Alternately back up to a file on your C: drive and copy that to a CD.
You only have to rebuild a hard drive once to appreciate this.
Consider an odd and even week (or month) system. that way if the last Cd you used is rubbish, the worst you are off is a week (or a month).
In between your weeklies (or monthlies) do an incremental backup, that will save any files that have changed or are new in the folders you have ticked.
The Sept mag has a useful article page 103.

Put a blank CD into the CD burner. Depending on what software you have installed you may get a window that pops up and say what do you want to do sort of thing. Cancel this!!!!

Right click on my computer and click on Explore. This will get you to a file manager. Being as I have no idea where your files reside I can't give you a definitive answer as to how to drag and drop. Like from where to where. There is also a difficulty to figure what you want to "BACKUP"

A "Backup" is usually done to separate media to your main hard drive. Usually this involves using MSBackup if installed on your computer.

Your problem is this:-

1: You need to "backup" files but you can "copy" files.
2: Think about how you restore files if your hard drive dies.
3: You will not be able to drag and drop certain directories in total as they may be in use at the time you want to do this.
