268623 2004-09-18 08:14:00 Has anyone noticed this: Since installing XP2, my Windows XP no longer says that it is the home edition when it comes up at the start. It just has the logo and Windows XP. heaton (3697)

268625 2004-09-19 12:22:00 Hi Peter.

Slipstreaming is updating the original Windows XP files, located in the I386 folder of the Windows CD, with Service Pack 2.

To do this you will need to get the network version of SP2, which is 266MB. You may already have it.

Make a folder on your hard drive, eg. C:\XP_CD. Copy the entire Windows XP CD-ROm into this folder.

Copy the SP2 setup file (266MB) into C:\, naming it "SP2_SETUP.EXE" and open Command Prompt.

Type in:

cd \
SP2_SETUP /update:C:\XP_CD

Substitute C: for the drive used, and XP_CD for the folder used. And substitute SP2_SETUP for whatever you called the installer.

Then follow the wizard.

You now have the slipstreamed files of the CD. Right-click the XP_CD folder, and click properties. Wait for the size to finish counting up, and see if it is above 695MB.

If it is, delete the VALUEADD and SUPPORT folders from XP_CD.

Then, if you want to burn it:

Download IsoBuster and extract "Microsoft Corporation" from your CD. Then, burn the CD you have created with these settings:

Boot Image: Microsoft Corporation.img
Sectors: 4
Emulation: No Emulation
Relax ISO Restrictions: Do not add version info (;1)

Add your files from C:\XP_CD and burn it.

Should have a bootable slipstreamed CD.

268626 2004-09-23 22:33:00 Installed on P3 733 with 512 megs of Ram . Clean install of Win XP (SP1 was Not installed as this was an early XP install CD) . XP worked fine compatabilty wiz said there was no problems . Installed SP2 and ended up in crash city .

Nearly half the services weren't functioning in fact I couldn't even copy a file from one folder to another as the service was not functioning or was corrupt . Modem wouldn't work, Couldn't even shutdown as the shutdown service wouldn't function .

Reformatted and installed XP again, so far I have only installed the essential updates from the MS site using a dial up . Will go back next week and install the update CD and then try and put SP2 back on . I now also have an image of the drive so should it stuff up again (and knowing ms it probably will) I can get to where I am currently quickly without having to reinstall .

I am guessing that it stuffed up beacuse SP1 had not already been installed but that is only a guess .

268631 2004-09-26 02:07:00 well SP2 worked fine for me Mirddes (10)
268632 2004-09-26 09:02:00 No problems installing on P4 2.8MHz, Gigabyte GA-8IK1100, 1G RAM, 120GB + 40GB HD.

But... SP2 broke Leadtek DV2000 TV/video capture. Uninstalled SP2 & DV2000 OK again. Contacted Leadtek and they suggested uninstall DV2000 before SP2 installation, then re-install DV2000 (latest software version).

Tried that, no good. I need the DV2000 right now, so SP2 will have to wait until either Leadtek correct the problem or I can do without the DV2000.
