268807 2004-09-03 02:42:00 Why the latest padlock? As far as I could see there was nothing wrong with the thread.
As far as I am concerned Telecom deserve everything that was said.
Don't be so touchy. Or are you trying to get them to advertise in PC World.

268808 2004-09-03 02:53:00 lets think about that................

/rant

this forum is a place that people can come to and ask questions about computers, get help about computers, give help about computers......

this forum was not designed to be a place to slag off at any company you dont like much.

yes there are often OFF TOPIC things talked about, full abuse of any named company or product is not need or wanted.

if you have such a problem with a company then go start a forum of your own just for the slaging.

this palce was designed to be a friendly place to get computer help, lets keep it that way.

268809 2004-09-03 03:57:00 It's all about gentlemanly behaviour, which this site is a bit short of at the moment with some people.

It is a question of respecting the rights of the webmaster, whether you agree with him/them or not.

If not, you are free to leave, and dont forget PCW dont have to run this site, it could be switched off tomorrow.

I expect they are very tempted to do so at times.

268810 2004-09-03 05:35:00 Look, I wouldn't like it if people started calling PC World something derogatory, or if someone tried to tell me that Galaxy Quest wasn't a documentary. Calling Telecom names is not constructive. Things were getting heated, ugly, and personal. Also, profanity is not acceptable.
We do try to give people free reign, but when it hurts people it is not right.
Even after we ask people to cool off, they can keep going in a thread and continue flame wars. Locking it stops it, and makes them cool off at least a little.
Vegetable rights and peace.

268812 2004-09-03 07:56:00 I must say Robbo I never got over heated,
I had no intentions of over heating someone else's radiator,

I just tried to pour oil over troubled waters to try and smooth things over,

And I liked the joke after my last posting to the thread, I am sure metla is a very nice joker even if he does have a xtra account.

268813 2004-09-03 08:15:00 Telecom need slagging they deserve it. BUT it must be done in a ordley, Professional debating manner. Beat the message not the messenger. drb1 (4492)
268814 2004-09-03 10:12:00 Exactly.

Intelligent, well-reasoned prose putting forward a logical case and argument will be much more productive than questioning parentage or pointless slagging.

We all get pissed off now and again, and need to rant, but in writing on a forum it can sound worse than it should, and can get nasty.

Nasty is bad.
Clear, reasoned, to the point is good.
(wonder when I will try writing like that, myself)

You also might consider attacking an argument rather than a person .

Excuse me . Why does Telecom deserve slagging?

Quite happy to debate the issue as you see it .

This may degenerate into Politics, Sex and Religion .

In my opinion every person in this forum has the right to free speech as it were .

The other point is that we are living in PressF1 which I thought was a
forum for helping people to help themselves .

I certainly don't mind the OFF TOPIC bits
