I have done a defrag..analyised it first like it says to do..I have Windows XP..It finished an it says it cannot defrag 15 fragments with a file size of 4.0 GB the file name is /WINDOWS/system32/ACTIVESPANAV.SIG ..when i analyise it again it says i should defrag agin :( Wots up with that..I still have 56% free space on my C drive..any ideas plase? jase12 (4868)
269359 2004-09-05 03:15:00 Not familair with XP but on this comp running 98se I always defrag in Safe Mode. In the absence of any other suggestions give that a go.

And it'll give you a *bump* as well. :D

269360 2004-09-05 03:34:00 Yup its a good idea to boot into safe to defrag. Less things run. Spacemannz (808)
269361 2004-09-05 03:42:00 But I wouldn't bother about it. You've got plenty of free space. If it's a file of virus signatures for an AV programme, it might be deliberately fragmented to speed access to parts of it. A 4GB file could need that.:D

Life is too short to insist on a totally fragment-free disk.
