269066 2004-09-04 01:05:00 Every time I try to do a virus scan on my computer I get a blue screen.
My files are up to date. Have contacted E-Trust did a complete uninstall, then reinstalled, got all the current update. No change. Tried to do an online scan with with a different Anti Virus ('Housecall' ), exactly the same thing happened with that. Blue screen. It is as if something is trying to prevent me scanning my computer for viruses. My Firewall (Zone Alarm) is up to date as are my Windows updates. In fact I am quite paraniod about security on the internet. I also have spybot and do a scan with that on a regular basis.
Would be grateful for any help as I am at a loss.
Thanks in anticipation.

269069 2004-09-04 04:55:00 If u use XP go to start/run type msconfig let us know whats there.

Or go to start/run type regedit. Then go here

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

Let us know whats there. And then go here as well.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run

And see whats under this. Also look under Runonce, Runservices, Runservicesonce, under these 2 places in your registry.

I've tried running a scan in safe mode, but still I get a blue screen. I am running Win98SE on this PC. E-Trust Anti Virus is owned by Computer Associates International. Never had any problems with it before. Have been using it for years. I also have Pest Control Terminator installed & all the files are up to date. I had a look around & decided that I may have the Netsky worm. I downloaded the fix & when trying to run it got yet another blue screen. Boy I'm getting frustrated!
Thanks in anticipation.

Put the hd in another system as a slave and scan it.

269072 2004-09-16 06:32:00 seeing as your running 98se you could run a dos based antivirus (fully uptodate of course) either off a bootable cd or floppy disks (that are write protected). tweak'e (174)
