269528 2004-09-05 10:33:00 Recently my internet sharing just stopped working. I use a 56K connection on my main PC, networked to a win98SE computer by a wired LAN. It was working fine up to now. I have tried setting up the network settings on both computers with the winXP CD to no avail. Also, it seems that the 'allow other computers to access the internet through this computer' option in the connection options on my PC has become unchecked. When I try to check this option, and apply the setting I get an Error 1061: The service cannot accept control messages at this time.

Any suggestions?

269529 2004-09-05 22:07:00 Forget the XP Setup wizard for setting up networks . Its hopeless, and can make things worse .

I take it the XP PC is the main computer for the net . Just click on it's LAN icon on the taskbar /properties/TCPIP . Then enter the ip address in manually (use the following ip) type in 192 . 168 . 0 . 1 . This may activate the ICS under the dialup icon .

Also goto Control Panel / Admin Tools / Services . Scroll down to Windows firewall / internet connection sharing . It may have been turned off here .

Under General what does yours say?? If Stopped, change it to Automatic and start under it . If it continues to stop, go to the same place / recovery, change the 3 top options to restart the service .
