269510 2004-09-05 10:23:00 Forgive me if I am not supposed to ask this question here. I'm sure someone will delete it if I am breaking any house rules :)

I am trying to burn a music CD for a friend's daughter.

As the tracks on the CD have been recorded in .cda format, I am using "CD to MP3 Ripper" to convert them to MP3 format.

The programme will only convert and burn the first 5 tracks on any CD.

Is there anyway around this problem?

269511 2004-09-05 10:34:00 So you're trying to copy a music CD? At least that's what it sounds like.

Ripping the CD to MP3 then burning it off again is a waste of time, and will decrease the quality of the audio.

Just use the CD Copy function of your CD-Writing software, it should have a wizard that'll walk you through it.

269512 2004-09-05 10:45:00 Thanks WTF.

Are you saying that any CD burning programme will successfully convert .cda to MP3?

269513 2004-09-05 10:47:00 No,he's saying rather then rip and compress just copy the entire cd.

Cdex is the program to do what your asking about.

269514 2004-09-05 11:04:00 Have I not made myself clear?

I am wanting to copy and convert a .cda CD to MP3 format. Her player does not recognise .cda recorded music :(

I will check out Cdex, thanks :)

269515 2004-09-05 11:12:00 No you haven't made yourself clear. The word burn implies putting a song onto a CD, not ripping it to your hard drive.

.cda is the bog standard format that every audio CD uses - go and buy any audio CD from a store and chuck it in a computer, all the tracks will show up as .cda files and it'll play fine in a CD player.

269516 2004-09-05 11:15:00 I would guess the player in question is more likely to be unable to read the cd due to it being a burned disc rather then the format, which as wtf has said is the standard format.

If your using cdrw then try cdr.

269517 2004-09-05 11:16:00 No Zippity, it's not clear.. Are you saying your friend's daughter can only play mp3's on the player? If so there seems no reason you can't rip audio cda to mp3's & burn 100's of them..

More information on the programs you & friend's daughter are using may help some here to help you.

269518 2004-09-05 11:18:00 and if its a standalone player it won't have a chance in heck of playing mp3 files burned to a cd unless it was specificlly built with that feature, and if it was built with the ability to read mp3 files then it should have no problem reading a 1-to-1 copy of a cd.

What are you trying to play it on?

269519 2004-09-05 12:06:00 Thanks all.

For whatever reason, the CD would not play on the CD player in their car but would play on their PC at home.

Anyways, I have now successfully copied and converted the CD (which was recorded in .cda format) to a CD in MP3 format.

Clear as mud?? :D:D
