269976 2004-09-07 00:30:00 Jetstream Surf 256 is super fast now. Any others experiencing this as well? Just downloaded my NAV definition update of 5.3 MB and it took <5 seconds to complete the download!!

Hope it's always at this speed :D

269978 2004-09-07 01:05:00 Is this something that Telecom does every now and then to show you what you don't have??

A workmate had his 128K connection downloading at a sustained 140kbit for a weekend when he's usually limited to about 15-20 .

Apparently Sky does this as well with channels you don't subscribe to . . .

Nope - post from other thread:

It happens to people all the time, most probably don't even notice . Certainly nothing to get that excited about .

The only prolonged one I'm aware of is a mate who's folks are paying for JetStart, however since the changeover to the new "QoS enabled" DSLAM's (Nokia --> Alcatel) they have been on full speed uncapped, so thats going on maybe 9 months or longer now .

269982 2004-09-07 13:21:00 Yeah I noticed it as well. Seems to happen every few months. It lasted for a couple of hours as far as I could tell Greg S (201)

yeah they just get you into it and watching it for a few days or so. That happened a while ago just as the Euro soccer was starting. Then you get hooked and they take it away.
I suppose a few people subscribe after that pretty quickly. Personally, I look at the Sky schedule and realise I'm not missing much.
(apart from the one program once a week when good old hvcplus comes in handy).
I've never had the full speed gifted from Telecom yet, but if I did I think I would quickly realise that 1GB is a measly data-cap. If anything it would give me less incentive to upgrade it as soon as I found out how quickly you could chew through it.

269984 2004-09-08 11:30:00 As I understand, 256k will be the new "jetstart' from 3rd October? barmypom (6048)
269985 2004-09-08 22:22:00 In that case by 2020 we should have 1Meg Jetstart.. paulw (1826)
