270281 2004-09-08 03:45:00 Hello all, just wondering if anyone has come across this problem before. I use MS Word (2002) and find I can only delete sections of text using 'DEL'. If I use 'Backspace' or try to 'type over' the text it seems to just ignore the text and start entering data after/before it. I've had a hunt around the settings to try and change this back (it doesn't do it in any other software I use) but had now joy. Any thoughts? Thanks. joe_exception (2874)
270282 2004-09-08 04:03:00 u press insert that'll overwrite in Word Spacemannz (808)
270283 2004-09-08 04:10:00 On the Tools menu, click Options, then the Edit tab, and ensure the box labeled Overtype Mode is ticked. That will give you an over-writing mode by default.

Not sure what you mean about the backspace key - you may need to be more specific if this doesn't help...

cheers,

270284 2004-09-08 04:40:00 Tools - Options - Edit - tick "Typing replaces selection" or just what you describe will happen godfather (25)
270285 2004-09-08 22:03:00 Thanks for this guys. I possibly wasn't quite clear enough about this...
I was aware of the 'OVR' setting (pushing 'Insert') which causes you to type over anything *in front* of the (flashing) cursor - my problem was that I wanted to *replace* highlighted/selected text (which I couldn't do without hitting 'delete' first). 'Backspace' also acts like a character entry in Word so I couldn't replace text with this key either.
Godfather's suggestion fixed my problem however so all is now good. Cheers.
