270226 2004-09-07 21:11:00 Can you tell me how to change a document (microsoft word) which I have been emailing as an attachment into word format as I am being told that they are unable to open it. schriif (6132)
270227 2004-09-07 21:33:00 Unless whoever receives the document, if they havent got MSoffice / Word, thats the reason they cant open it. Just type whatever. Go to save as. Choose Word Document. Do the people who received the word document use Word?? Spacemannz (808)
270228 2004-09-07 21:36:00 If you are using Word to create the document you can save it as a web page (HTML) and send that. The recipients should be able to view the document in any web browser. When you "save as" just change the file type to web page instead of word document. Sb0h (3744)
270229 2004-09-07 22:06:00 It depends on what version of word are you using and what the recipients have or don't have. MS in their wisdom changed the file format of word documents with new releases from time to time.

If they have an earlier version of Word or Wordperfect, when you Save As use the drop down list at the bottom of the save dialogue box to save as a Word 6.0, Word Perfect or Rich Text (.rtf) document. That way they can edit it if that is required otherwise you can try the html format as suggested although some antivirus will view html/htm as a security risk.

If you don't want them to alter the document at all, convert it to .pdf if you have than facility (CutePDF is a free converter, google for it)

270231 2004-09-07 22:10:00 Forgot to mention, if you have some special formating not available to earlier versions of Word or Word Perfect, you've got a good chance that this will be lost when you Save As whereas, PDF will copy the layout and formating (almost) exactly but is un-editable at the other end.

270232 2004-09-07 22:13:00 Out of curiosity can the recipients open other attachments?
May well be blocked by OE. If so get them to click on Tools | Options | Security - then untick attachments option.
