1370390 2014-03-17 01:22:00 Hi Team

I changed my settings according to Telecom's instructions and incoming mail is OK but outgoing doesn't send.

Xtra seems to be arguing with the change from smtp@xtra.co.mz to send@xtra.co.nz.

It pops up my username and password but says the password is invalid. From this I am assuming that send@ does not in fact have my password registered, so there is no 'correct' password I can give it other than the one I currently have been using. Curiously, on running their test I have seen it completed successfully.

Fortunately I can receive mail OK and have Gmail as a sending backup, but I can't for the life of me see why send@ doesn't function, after all, it is Telecoms specified outgoing address.

Any ideas?

Cheers

1370391 2014-03-17 01:23:00 Have you tried send.xtra.co.nz? ;) pcuser42 (130)
1370392 2014-03-17 01:45:00 Yup it's . not @ for send / smtp (help.telecom.co.nz) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1370393 2014-03-17 01:51:00 And have you changed the SSL settings & port as well?

I use live mail which is one of the example ones so that was easy, in fact it had auto set itself correctly anyway.
Android took a few seconds longer. Curiously the windows 8 Email app is using IMAP settings for xtra but it works and I don't use it anyway.

My only problem was them hassling me to do it every couple of days even though I already had.

Yes, I've changed both ports, and I do have send.xtra.co.nz, it was momentary frustration-related brain-fade that inserted the @

One thing that does confuse me is whether I use the 'LAN' or 'phone line' connection, but I didn't change that and incoming is OK.

I copied the instructions for all settings from Telecoms website and followed them wherever they fitted.

It keeps asking for the network password for send.xtra etc as well, but that passsword is auto-entered anyway so the correct PW is there.

Now that I think of it, I had a similar PW problem two or three years back when setting up this computer and Telecom told me my PW was wrong and gave me a different one that I used elsewhere and that worked!!!

1370395 2014-03-17 05:29:00 Most of the time the problem is Xtra, its been happening ever since they changed over to the SSL connections with yahoo ages ago.

Had this problem MANY times, and the last time I was at a persons house and we called xtra, they said it was the password, so we reset it on the spot, still didn't work, so changed the settings back to defaults ( 110 & 25) and worked perfectly, accepted the password etc. Then came the usual, its not us its your computer BS -- they didn't know what to say when asked why it worked on old setting not new. ;)

This is why so many people have dumped xtra and changed email providers (gmail, outlook.com etc)

1370396 2014-03-17 05:41:00 We've also come across situations where the SSL settings just wouldn't work so had to resort to the non-SSL ports.
Not sure what will happen for them when Telexom/Xtra turn off the non-SSL ports??
I know there was nothing wrong with the machines too as other accounts with SSL work fine.

1370397 2014-03-17 06:55:00 Yeah last time I used it through OE6 the settings that worked were different to the ones they recommended... Agent_24 (57)
1370398 2014-03-17 09:36:00 In my case I could send but not receive. I use Thunderbird and I was confident that I had made the correct changes but couldn't get thru to Xtra for asistance.

My email was down for about 5 hours but came right by itself after that period of time. Obviously they probably got a flood of complaints and sorted
out the problem. Doesn't pay to panic with this lot.

1370399 2014-03-17 10:20:00 OK, back to my problem, I think I may have sorted the Xtra account but I also have an Orcon account for my domain name.

Incoming email is pop3.orcon.net.nz, but outgoing was mapped to pop3.xtra.co.nz and is now changed to send.xtra.co.nz

It seems to be this one that is giving me the problems because it won't accept send.xtra.co.nz (or at least it won't accept my password).

There is no hope of getting Telecom tonight so I'll have to try again in the morning.

Any fresh ideas would be welcomed.

Cheers
