1352194 2013-08-27 07:01:00 I am planning a few days' trip to East Cape for mid or late next month .

Starting in Auckland then
Opotiki then
Somewhere near the East Cape lighthouse then
Gisborne then
Rotorua then
Back to Auckland .

Up to forty dollars per night for accommodation .

Can people recommend accommodation places such as hostels or camping grounds where service is good and not shoddy? I'm after a good experience touring East Cape also any tourist attractions recommended around there?

It will be my first time to East Cape . Am I correct that it's a hard region to reach and get around?

Thanks in advance for your assistance :-)

Will you have your own transport? Try the YHA for cheap accommodation: http://www . yha . co . nz/

Had a look at the YHA website but there isn't a YHA hostel between Whakatane and Gisborne. Gisborne has a YHA hostel but I don't know how good that one is.

Just had a brainwave, I can make some phone calls to I-Site visitor centres and accommodation providers around the East Cape region to see if there are suitable places to stay at.

Yes, will have own car.

1352198 2013-08-29 05:30:00 I think the accommodation choices are rather limited around the East Cape so you may have to take what you can get. You can always take a tent! :p

There aren't many topics on the subject but have a look here (www.tripadvisor.com) for some past (old) threads that may be of some help and post your own question if necessary. We may be doing the same trip ourselves later this year so I will be researching places to stay as well. It is a long way around the East Cape and whilst it can be done in a day I don't like rushing.
